The Orlando area theme parks are welcoming the summer crowds back, and this past week has been packed with exciting announcements about what we can expect later on in the year in Walt Disney World.
Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration
The biggest news this week coming out of the Orlando area was the new additions to Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. While we already received a few updates a while back about this celebration, Disney fans were thrilled to learn about the opening of two new fireworks shows starting on October 1st, 2021. The long-awaited Harmonious will arrive in Epcot on this day, and we’ll be saying goodbye to Happily Ever After and welcoming Enchantment to the Magic Kingdom each night.
On top of the fireworks, Disney’s Animal Kingdom park will debut a new daytime show on 1st October, entitled Disney KiteTails. It will take place a few times a day at the Discovery River Amphitheater. Throughout the four theme parks, you can also expect to see 50 gold characters waiting for you to find throughout the parks.
Disney’s Contemporary Resort Upgrades
In celebration of the 50th Anniversary this year, Walt Disney World is upgrading Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Rooms will now feature characters from The Incredibles, and the new images that were released this week make us want to book a stay here already!
International Drive Disney Art Display
For anyone who is choosing to stay on International Drive during an upcoming trip, there will be a fun addition from Disney opening in 2022. Walt Disney World is going to install a giant art display and a new retail store on this popular tourist strip, which we can expect to open sometime next year.
Disney’s Magical Express Updates
If you are using Disney’s Magical Express this year, guests will no longer be mailed reservations ahead of their trip. You’ll now need to use MagicBands or Mobile Magic to check-in, or your reservations can be retrieved manually with your ID.
